Understanding Versions
Learn how versions keep your audio files organized within tracks.
What Are Versions?
Versions are the audio files inside a track. A single track might have many versions, a rough demo, a polished mix, a mastered file, a radio edit, or an acoustic version. Versions let you keep every iteration of a song in one place.

Version-Level Data
In Locker, audio analysis data belongs to the version, not the track. Each version has its own:
- BPM (tempo)
- Musical Key
- Genre tags
- Mood tags
- Instrument detection
- Vocal/Instrumental classification
- Waveform visualization
- Duration
This matters because different versions of the same song can have different tempos, keys, or instrumentation. A demo recorded at home might be in a different key than the studio version.
Tags Overview
Default Version
Each track has a Default Version, this is the one that plays when you click the track in your library, and whose metadata (BPM, key, genre) is displayed in the track list. You can change the default version at any time in the track inspector.
Managing Versions
- Add versions by dragging audio files onto a track
- Rename versions to keep them clear (e.g., "Demo v1", "Final Master")
- Set the default version to control what plays and what metadata shows
- Delete versions you no longer need
- Download any version to your computer
