Understand how tracks work as containers for your music.
What is a Track?
A Track in Locker is not just an audio file, it's a container for everything related to a song. Think of it like a folder that holds all the pieces of a composition together.

What Lives Inside a Track
- Versions: Different audio recordings of the song (demo, rough mix, final master, radio edit, instrumental, etc.)
- Lyrics: One or more lyric sheets, written in the Writing Room
- Voice Notes: Quick recordings and ideas attached to the song
- Stems: Individual instrument files (drums, bass, vocals, etc.) organised in stem packs
- Videos: Music videos, visualisers or sync cuts
- Other files: Artwork, documents, chord charts and anything else related to the song
- Credits, notes, comments, tasks and plans: who worked on it, and everything said and planned about it
Each track has a Main version, the one that plays when you click the track. You can make any other version Main at any time.
Creating a Track
There are several ways to create a track:
- Add audio files: Locker creates tracks for you, named from your filenames
- Press the plus and choose Track: creates an empty track you can name and fill later
- Drag files anywhere onto Locker: the Add to Locker window opens with them in it
Track Details
Each track has its own details that help you organise your catalogue:
- Title: The track name
- Artist / Pitch: who performs it, chosen from your People, or Pitch for a track you are pitching to artists
- Status: the stage the track is at. You set your own stages (a starting set is Idea, Demo, Work in progress, Mixing, Mastered and Released) and can change them any time
- Where: the place it was made, picked from your Places
- Credits: the people who worked on it and their roles, with writer splits and master points
Artist / Pitch is a track detail, not a flexible tag. It stays separate from tags so you can always filter artist tracks and pitch tracks apart.
Track Tags
Tags are flexible labels for organising tracks beyond fixed details. Genre, mood and instruments are filled in by the analyser, and you can add your own words for anything else.
- Custom tags: Add any label you want (e.g., "Sync Ready", "Needs Mix", "Album B-Side")
- User-defined values: Use the words that match your own workflow instead of a fixed preset list
- Tag Manager: rename, merge or tidy your tags in one place
- Filterable: Use tags to filter your library and find tracks instantly
Tags work alongside folders and track details. Folders group things, details like Status and Artist / Pitch hold structured facts, and tags are flexible labels that cut across everything.
