Showing your Google, Apple or Outlook calendar in Locker
Where to find your calendar’s private address, and what to paste into Locker.
How it works
Locker’s Calendar can show the events from your other calendars beside your writes, studio days and deadlines. Each calendar has a private address that ends in .ics. Copy it from Google, Apple or Outlook, then paste it into Locker: on the Calendar, open Calendars, paste the address under Show your calendars in Locker and press Add.
Its events show on your Calendar a little fainter than Locker’s own, and only you see them. Locker only reads them: nothing you do in Locker changes your other calendar.
Tap an event to add Locker details to it: what it is, who it is with, and then its tracks and briefs. See Adding Locker details to an event.
Each calendar gets its own tick box at the top of the Calendar, so you can hide it whenever you like. You can show up to 10 calendars.
Google Calendar
Do this on a computer. The Google Calendar phone app does not show the address.
- Open calendar.google.com and click the gear at the top right, then Settings.
- On the left, under Settings for my calendars, click the calendar you want in Locker.
- Click Integrate calendar.
- Copy Secret address in iCal format. It starts https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/ and ends in basic.ics.
- Paste it into Locker and press Add.
Not the shareable link. Get shareable link gives an address with cid= in it, which only opens Google Calendar for people you have shared with, so Locker cannot read it. Public address in iCal format only works if the calendar is public. Use the secret address.
If there is no Secret address on a work or school account, its administrator has turned it off. Ask them, or use a personal calendar.
Apple Calendar (iCloud)
This works for calendars kept in iCloud. A calendar kept only on your Mac cannot be shared this way.
On a Mac:
- Open the Calendar app.
- In the list of calendars on the left, Control-click the calendar and choose Share Calendar.
- Tick Public Calendar.
- Copy the address it shows. It starts webcal://.
- Paste it into Locker and press Add.
On an iPhone or iPad:
- Open the Calendar app and tap Calendars at the bottom.
- Tap the i next to the calendar.
- Turn on Public Calendar, then tap Share Link and Copy.
- Paste it into Locker and press Add.
Not an invitation. Sharing a calendar with a person sends an iCloud invitation link, which Locker cannot read. Use the Public Calendar address.
Public means anyone who has the address can see the calendar, so keep it to yourself. Locker never shows the address again once you have pasted it.
Outlook
This works for Outlook.com and Microsoft 365 calendars. Use Outlook on the web: the Outlook app on a Mac or PC does not publish calendars.
- Open outlook.com, or outlook.office.com for a work account, and go to the calendar.
- Click the gear at the top right, then Calendar, then Shared calendars.
- Under Publish a calendar, choose the calendar and Can view all details, then click Publish.
- Copy the ICS link.
- Paste it into Locker and press Add.
Not the HTML link. Outlook gives two links: the HTML one opens the calendar in a browser, and Locker cannot read it. Copy the ICS link.
If Publish a calendar is missing on a work account, its administrator has turned it off.
Keeping it private
- Only you see the events. Nobody you share tracks, playlists or writes with sees your other calendars.
- Locker keeps the address out of sight. It is never shown again, and History names the calendar, never its address.
- To stop, press Remove next to the calendar in Calendars. To cut the address off for good, reset it in Google, turn off Public Calendar in Apple, or stop publishing in Outlook.
The other way: Locker in your calendar
In Calendars, under Show Locker in your calendar, press Make my private link. Then press Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook under it, and your calendar opens with the link filled in. Your plans, due tasks, brief deadlines and release days then show there.
To add the link by hand instead, copy it and:
- Google Calendar: on a computer, open Settings, then Add calendar, then From URL, and paste the link.
- Apple Calendar: in the Calendar app on a Mac, choose File, then New Calendar Subscription, and paste the link.
- Outlook: in Outlook on the web, open the calendar, choose Add calendar, then Subscribe from web, and paste the link.
Google checks subscribed calendars on its own timetable, so a change in Locker can take several hours to show there. Apple and Outlook are usually quicker.
For one plan only, open it and press Add to my calendar. That puts a copy in Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar, with a link back to the plan in Locker. Later changes stay in Locker, so use the private link to keep everything in step.
